That’s one reason I created this website about the url rotator.  The owner of the software listens to his customers and makes enhancements based on their needs.

The latest change is just one case of an improvement to the rotator script because of a customer need.

This particular customer bought the HomeBizRotator php rotator to replace their random rotator with a serial rotator.  They also wanted the hit tracking capabilities of this web rotator.

They were faced with the job of transferring hundreds of links from one rotator to the new rotator.  To have to add each new link one by one would have been very time consuming.  The customer wanted a way to load a batch of links to the rotator without having to do the load directly to the php rotator database.

The result of this request was an a new feature being added to the HomeBizRotator.

Now you can copy and paste a large number of links into the batch upload page of the rotation script.  It takes just a few seconds to load, name and enable hundreds of links with a simple copy, paste and submit.

Here are the changes, and some comments I have on the changes.

1.  There are times I wanted to temporarily remove a link from rotation, to update the site.  With older versions, if you wanted to disable a link from rotation, you had to delete it from the rotator.  Then, if you wanted to rotate that link later, you had to add it back into the rotator.  When you deleted the link, the stats for that link were also deleted, so you had no history of rotations on that link.

With the new Enable/Disable function, you can now remove a link from the rotation without deleting it.  Simply disable the link, and then enable the link to add it back into the rotation.  The hits stats are preserved and will hit counts will continue where they left off.

This is a huge plus.

2.  This is great if you are running a coop for advertising.  Let’s say you are buying 10,000 views and want to distribute those hits to 10 sites, or 10 coop members.  When you setup the link for each site, or customer, set the maximum hits to 1,000.  After each site receives it’s 1,000 hits, the web page will be removed from the rotation.

But wait, what if all sites reach their maximum rotations, but you are still getting traffic to the rotator?  That possibility is taken care of with #3.

3.  In the Admin Profile you can set a default URL that will be displayed if all links are disabled, so traffic never goes to waste.

4.  Again, this is a great feature if you are running a traffic coop, or just want to easily send more traffic to certain links.  Using our 10,000 views again, lets say one coop member wanted to purchase 3 of those 10 spots, each link getting 1,000 hits.

In the past versions of the link rotator, you would have to enter the same link 3 times, each time with a unique name, so they would get 30% of the views.  Now, you just need to enter a weight of 3 and that link will get 3 hits before moving on to the next link in the rotation.

You can also use #2 (Maximum Hits) and #4 (Weight) at the same time.  In the above example you could set a weight of 3 and a maximum hits of 3000 to make sure the URL didn’t get more views, if your traffic source over delivered.

5.  The main admin screen now shows the next link to be rotated in bold and italics.  This is good for having a quick look at what link is up next.  The main screen reporting also shows the number of views delivered for each link in relation to its weight or maximum hits.  For example 3 of 5 hits is displayed if a link has a weight of 5 set and three views have been delivered.  Or, 50 of 1,000 would be displayed if a URL had a maximum hits of 1,000 set and 50 views had been rotated so far.

6.  The updated reset stats page, allows you to easily reset the hits rotated so far, for weight and maximum hits to zero.

The URL Rotator is still very easy to use.  When you add a new link, the script automatically enables the link for rotation, and sets weight and maximum hits to zero, disabling those features.

I also noticed that the addition of these new features did not result in a price increase, a better rotator at the same low cost – I like it!

Here is why you need to install a Rotator Script on your own domain.

If you’ve ever had the need to send traffic to one URL, and have that traffic spread among several websites, you have had the need for a link rotator.

If you have been looking for a URL rotator, you have probably there are two solutions to URL rotation. Installing a rotator script on your own domain, or using a third party link rotation service.

I always suggest you go with the solution that you can host yourself. As you investigate link rotator services, you will find a number of drawbacks.

First, you will find that rotation services limit the number of links you can rotate for free. At some point of time you will find yourself rotating enough links that you will have to pay a monthly fee to rotate the number of links that you want to.

You never know when a URL rotation service that may disappear, leaving the hard earned traffic you have directed to the service going nowhere.

Here is a solid piece of advice if you are doing any marketing on the internet. You must control your own links, and have as much control over your traffic as you can.

That’s why I strongly encourage you to have your own domain, and your own web hosting account. Furthermore, I encourage you to provide your own services as much as you can. Leave the web hosting and autoresponders to the services that know them best, and then attempt to host and own the rest of your own tools.

The rotator script is one tool you can, and should, host yourself.

The benefits to owning your own url rotator service are:

1. No more monthly fees! You pay a low one time fee, and then install the simple rotator script on your own domain. You rotate as many links as you want, on as many domains as you want. Just be careful, not all rotator scripts allow you to install the URL rotator on unlimited domains. Some rotator scripts charge you a one time fee per domain.

I recommend the HomeBizRotator since you can install it on unlimited domains that you own.

2. As stated above, you MUST be in control of your own links, and your own traffic. Imagine if you singed up for one of the free, or fee per multiple rotator services. You spent hard earned money and worked your tail off to get traffic going to your link rotator link with the third party service.

Suddenly, the rotator service disappeared. The traffic that your worked hard to generate is now pointing to a dead link. The money you spent, and time you spent is now being wasted because you had no control over the rotator service.

This is something that can happen very easily. All it takes is a few spammers sending out emails with the rotator service link in the email. A spam complaint to the rotators web host and domain registrar and that service could be shut down.

Don’t take the chance of losing your traffic being sent to a URL rotator service. I strongly suggest you look at this quality rotator script, and install it on your own domain.

3. Traffic going to your website means something. When you use a third party link rotation service, you are sending your traffic to their domain. The rotator service is benefiting from your traffic one way or another. At the very least, they are improving their Alexa rating as a result of members sending traffic to their domain. Why not send the traffic you are generating to your own domain?
